Day 2 of the Second Rob Burton Memorial Ride – 7 Dec 2016
Middelburg to Willowmore, via Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen
Highlights of the day:
After a lovely braai, prepared by our catering team, everybody had a restful night.
The day started early with some confusion about missing lunch packs and at the starting spot, the Bombardier, Sean Rice was missing. His roommate thought he had gone with his team mates and they thought he was with his roommate, so he was fetched by the media team started the cycle once he caught up with them.
The weather was superb, not too hot and with a slight side or tail wind. The stretch to Graaff-Reinet went in record time and we were welcomed at Caltex College Motors and Fresh Stop in Graaff-Reinet with some coffee, breakfast burgers, fruit and fresh water.
After the break, the teams got on the road again and did 2 legs each, which went very well. We had wonderful views from the Lootsberg and the Naudesberg Passes.
The ride passed without further incidents, except for Andrew Wienand’s buckled front rim because of excessive braking on the downhill and Norrie’s 5th or 6th puncture.
All teams arrived at the accommodation in Willowmore by 1 pm, jumped in the pool immediately and had a relaxing afternoon further.
