Grandads Army Memorial Ride 2019
A Trans-Karoo relay cycle from East London to Gordon’s Bay over 5 days,
starting on 3 March 2018.
In memory of Rob Burton, Arthur Salzwedel and other cyclists who passed away, Grandads Army will take on the 5-day Trans-Karoo ride to Cape Town.
Since 2015 this Trans-Karoo Cycle has been a yearly event and Grandads Army have raised just over one million ZAR for the Eyabantwana, For the Children Trust sofar.
The money raised in the previous years has been used by the Trust to improve all aspects of the care of children who have been burnt, by purchasing specialized equipment to treat the burns and upgrading the burns ward at Frere Hospital to make it more child friendly. Other specialized instruments were bought to manage children with other surgical problems.
This year they will embark on another ride to Cape Town, leaving East London on Sunday 3 March, will arrive in Gordon’s Bay on Thursday 7 March and after a few days rest, will cycle the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday 10 March.
32 intrepid cyclists will take part in the ride and they each pay their own costs of the trip.
Grandads Army aims to raise R 300 000 this year, so they can continue supporting the children of the Eastern Cape who need surgical care through the Eyabantwana, For the Children Trust.
The 2019 Itinerary is:
