Pediatric Surgical Service

_MG_2970 small

The Pediatric Surgical service in East London serves a population of approximately 5 million people with children being referred from virtually all regions of the Eastern Cape. As a result our centre has now become one of the four largest children’s surgical centres in Southern Africa.

villageOf necessity, many of our patients, including newborn babies, have to travel over vast distances to reach our hospitals.

The medical staff of the Pediatric Surgical Service comprise 3 consultant pediatric surgeons; two registrars in formal pediatric surgery training, one other senior surgeon and variable numbers of junior staff.

Continued Medical Education and Academic interaction for current staff and training of future surgeons is an important aspect of each week’s work.
