Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery.

Prof. Chitnis is from Pune, India.

He completed his medical degree in India and his specialty training in Paediatric Surgery in India, Glasgow, UK and in East London, South Africa.

He came to East London in the mid nineteen nineties as a full time member of the then recently founded Department of Paediatric Surgery.

Dr Chitnis has been departmental head since 2008.

His interests include hypospadias surgery, corrections of congenital malformation and laparoscopic surgery.

Specialist Training

The Department of Paediatric Surgery is fully accredited for training prospective surgeons. The training program which comprehensive and covers all aspects of paediatric surgery, runs over 5 years. There are opportunities to rotate through paediatric and neonatal intensive care, oncology and urology.
